Environmental & Social Policy

1. Policy Statement

Vika Group is committed to conducting its operations in a manner that protects the environment, respects the rights and wellbeing of affected communities, and contributes to the sustainable development of the regions in which it operates. We align our environmental and social management with the IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability, the Equator Principles, and applicable national environmental legislation.

2. Environmental Commitments

Vika Group is committed to:

  • Conducting Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) for all significant operational activities prior to commencement;
  • Implementing Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) to manage identified impacts;
  • Minimising waste generation and ensuring responsible waste management and disposal;
  • Protecting biodiversity and avoiding or mitigating impacts on critical habitats;
  • Managing water resources responsibly and minimising water consumption;
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions where practicable and tracking our carbon footprint;
  • Preventing and responding to pollution incidents promptly and transparently.

3. Social Commitments

Vika Group is committed to:

  • Engaging affected communities in a meaningful, culturally appropriate, and timely manner throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Obtaining free, prior, and informed consent from indigenous and local communities where required by applicable standards;
  • Avoiding involuntary resettlement where possible and, where unavoidable, managing it in accordance with IFC Performance Standard 5;
  • Protecting cultural heritage and avoiding impacts on physical and intangible cultural resources;
  • Providing fair wages, safe working conditions, and equal opportunity to all workers;
  • Prohibiting the use of forced labour, child labour, and all forms of modern slavery.

4. IFC Performance Standards Alignment

Vika Group's environmental and social management framework is designed to meet the requirements of the IFC Performance Standards, which are the benchmark for DFI-backed investment. The eight Performance Standards address:

  • PS1: Assessment and Management of Environmental and Social Risks and Impacts;
  • PS2: Labour and Working Conditions;
  • PS3: Resource Efficiency and Pollution Prevention;
  • PS4: Community Health, Safety, and Security;
  • PS5: Land Acquisition and Involuntary Resettlement;
  • PS6: Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Management of Living Natural Resources;
  • PS7: Indigenous Peoples;
  • PS8: Cultural Heritage.

5. Monitoring and Reporting

Vika Group monitors environmental and social performance against agreed indicators and reports on performance to relevant stakeholders, including capital partners and affected communities. Environmental and social incidents are reported promptly and investigated to prevent recurrence.

6. Governance

The Chief Executive Officer has overall responsibility for environmental and social performance. Environmental and social considerations are integrated into investment decisions, operational planning, and contractor management. This policy is reviewed annually.
